AJ. System Accessories
Within this category we describe options for products related to the Systems class if they can not be correctly described
within other categories, as well as:
- fans for system cases
- coolers and heat sinks for processors, video cards, video and system memory
- racks (for servers, storage, networking, etc.), various accessories for racks (doors, casters, ballast, rack cable management, etc.)
- licenses to use a hardware device or unit, no matter which class this device (unit) belongs to, as well as upgrade licenses for hardware devices (number of ports, protocols activation, bandwidth, etc.)
- various security keys, tokens or cards used for network or personal authentication.

B.Memory
BA. RAM
Within this category we describe main memory (operating storage) sold separately for systems and components.We cover both universal generic and vendor
specific RAM upgrades. RIMM continuity modules are described in the AJ System Accessories category. We do not describe memory chips for memory
modules.
BB. Video Memory
The category is not in use.
For video memory modules use category "RAM" (BA).
BC. Cache Memory
The category is not in use.
Cache memory for any device should be within category "RAM" (BA).
BD. Flash Memory
Within this category we describe:
- Flash memory modules for various devices intended to store data
- Flash memory cards (digital media for digital video cameras, handheld computers, etc.) intended to store data
- Flash memory cards supplied with a card reader designed for only this card type (kit of memory card and multi-card reader are described in the category BF Memory Adapters)
- USB flash drives (including ones with integrated fingerprint reader).
Notes:
- All Cisco IOS Sets are described within the GA Operating Systems category (including ones preloaded on flash modules)
- Solid State Floppy Disk Card (SSFDC) is another name for SmartMedia Cards and is described here
- Memory modules and cards that are not intended to store user's data but are rather distribution media for fonts, firmware, books and games (for printers, routers, handhelds, etc.) are described in category BE Read-Only
- Memory, regardless of the capability to be rewritten (i.e. both flash-based or true ROM). Cards and flash drives that offer storage capacity for user's data and contain certain software (backup utility, encryption suite, etc.) are described in this category Flash Memory.

BE. Read-Only Memory
This category is intended for both rewritable and non-rewritable memory modules with preloaded content. BIOS chips,
flash memory modules with printer fonts or software for routers, etc. are described within the Read-Only Memory category (even if they use flash
memory technology).
A software products for a router sold on a CD-ROM to be loaded into a router flash from a remote computer are described within the GB Application
or GA Operating System categories. When the same software products are distributed on a flash memory module, they are described within the BE
Read-Only Memory category.
Notes:
As an exception, all CISCO IOS Feature Sets are described within the GA Operating Systems category.
Software products for GPS on any media (including memory cards) are described in PH GPS Software category.
BF. Memory Adapters
This category is intended for:
- Flash memory readers for flash memory cards and storage devices such as IBM/Hitachi Microdrives and PC card drives. (Multi-card adapters are also described in this category)
- Multi-card readers supplied with flash memory cards (a kit of flash memory and card reader designed only for that card type are described in the category BD Flash Memory
- Memory expansion boards
- Printer memory buffers (which are connected to a PC via pass-through parallel interface)
- Memory upgrade kits, which include two or more types of memory (for example, bundle of a system memory and a video memory, or a system memory and an L2 cache memory. Memory Adapters is the only category that allows to describe each type of memory in such upgrade kits separately)
Note: A card adapter is described in the DH Input Adapters category if either:
- Card adapter is not compatible with flash memory cards (i.e. compatible with devices other than memory modules only). For example, PCI to PC Card adapter intended to PC Card wireless network card.
- It is not multi-card adapter (n-in-one USB, FireWire, etc) and the manufacturer does not specify its purpose (or its purpose is not obvious).
- SmartCard readers (including SIM card).
C.Storage Devices
CA. Hard Drives
This category is intended for physical (i.e. with moving parts inside) and solid-state hard disk drives.
This category covers most types of single physical hard drives : internal (IDE, SATA, SCSI, Fibre Channel) or external
(USB, FireWire, SCSI, etc.), of various form-factors - 3.5", 2.5", 1.8", Microdrives (1") and smaller (0.85"...) ones.
Solid-state drives with storage interfaces (SCSI, IDE, SATA, eSATA) are described within this category. USB flash drives, solid-state drives
in CF and PC Card form factors are described in Flash Memory.
Notes:
- Hard drive based devices with integrated flash card reader are described in this category if they cannot operate without computer, otherwise they belong to Digital AV Players & Recorders.
- In other categories are covered many-drive devices, hard drive based players and multimedia devices.
CB. Undefined
This category is not used anymore. This deactivated category is used for products that are not covered by 1WS PDM and are rejected from production
with status “RFP” on categorization stage.
Note: Previously it was named Disk Array (RAID).
CC. Disk Drives
This category is intended for:
- External and internal data storage drives for removable magnetic disks (e.g. floppy drive, ZIP drive),
- External and internal data storage drives for removable optical disks (e.g. CD-ROM drive, DVD-RAM drive),
- External and internal data storage drives for removable magneto-optical disks,
- CD/floppy and DVD/floppy combo drives,
- Removable data storage disks libraries
- CD duplicators, DVD duplicators, CD/DVD duplicators, both with and without an integrated printer.
- Backup solutions based on a hard drive in a cartridge (Quantum GoVault, Tandberg RDX, etc; cartridges are described in Removable Media)
Notes:
- MiniDisc player (recorder) is not a data storage drive, because it cannot be used for storing user or system data.
- Most of them are described in KA Home Audio and KB Portable Audio.
- Some of described here drives feature integrated memory card reader and even can copy card's content to disk without computer.
CD. Tape Drives
This category is intended for:
- Tape drives
- Tape drive autoloaders
- Tape drive libraries(1)

CE. Network Storage
This category is used to describe so-called NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices(1). These
devices work connected
directly to LAN (but not Storage Area Networks, such as iSCSI or Fibre Channel SAN (2)) and serves
as file or backup
servers.
Note: all tape drives and tape libraries(3) (including ones with LAN interface)
are described in the category Tape Drives.

CF. Removable Media
This category is intended for:
- CD and DVD blank media for data, music and video
- Cleaning CD and DVD disks
- Various types of magnetic, optical or magneto-optical disks and tapes for data storage

All other media that are not designed for data storage (i.e. manufacturer specifies its capacity only in time units - hours,
minutes and seconds) are described in the MC AV Blank Media category.
CG. Storage Adapters
This category is intended for:
- Internal and external storage (SCSI, IDE, floppy) interface controllers that connects to computer via various buses (PCI, ISA, etc.) or interfaces (Serial, parallel, USB, etc.)(1)
- Combo adapters, such as LAN/SCSI, SCSI/USB, SCSI/parallel, SATA/USB, etc
- Fibre Channel RAID controllers. Fiber Channel RAID controller is a controller installed in a server that deals with
- RAID massive. The RAID massive can be a set of internal hard drives or set of remote SAN (storage area network) storage devices.
- Fibre Channel controllers (2) for remote SAN (storage area network) storage devices. Such controllers adopt storage modules (e.g. hard drives or tape drives) to Fibre Channel network.
- Bay adapters for storage drives (HDD, tape drives, etc.) including external ones that provide some convert
- interface (IDE to USB, etc)
- Mobile racks (complete sets, separate frames and carriers, mobile racks with included hard drive)
- Drive cages (and internal RAID subsystems)

CI. Storage Enclosures & RAID Arrays
This category is intended for:
- external(1)and rack-mountable storage enclosures
- external RAID arrays consisting of controller, disk drive bays and (maybe) disks hard drive duplicators (e.g. OmniClone)
- SAN (storage area network) devices, except for SAN hubs and switches that are described "Hubs & Switches" category.
Bay adapters for various types of drives (HDD, tape drives, etc) are described within the Storage Adapters category.

CJ. Storage Accessories
Within this category we describe options for products related to the C Storage Devices or B Memory classes if they cannot be correctly described within

- Various cleaning cartridges and cleaning disks are described within the CF Removable Media category.

D.Input Devices
DA. Keyboards
This category is used for various keyboards and keypads. Their main function is text or digit entry, so gamepads are
described in the DC Game Controllers). Product of this category can be equipped with integrated or bundled pointing
devices, but it is not pointing device itself (i.e. mouse or digitizer with many buttons is described in DB Pointing Devices).
Notes:
Keyboards for notebooks:
- External USB and wireless keyboards for mobile users (usually such keyboards look like desktop keyboards but smaller)
- Part numbers that describe keyboard properties in BTO process
- Other part-numbers offered as accessory or option
- Notebook keyboards that are definitely defined by manufacturer as spare (service) parts.
DB. Pointing Devices
Devices for absolute or relative (movement) coordinates input are described in this category. Typical examples:
- Mouse (optical, mechanical, with integrated trackball, wheel, memory card slots, etc)
- Trackball
- Digitizer, also known as “Pen Tablet” (some of them have integrated LCD display)
- Cursor (puck) or mouse for digitizer.
- Active styluses for digitizers, handhelds or tablet PC
- Signature terminals
Notes:
1. Joysticks are described in DC Game Controllers.
2. If stylus is pressure sensitive or has functional buttons, then it is described here. Simple stylus being in really
plastic rod is described within one of the "Accessory" categories, within the corresponding parent product class.
Most PDA use pressure sensitive display and simple stylus but Tablet PCs feature build-in electromagnetic
digitizer and pressure sensitive stylus covered by the category Pointing Devices.
3. Presentation remote control devices that are intended to control personal computer (emulate mouse input, so on)
are described in MF Remote Controls.
DC. Game Controllers
This category is intended for various joysticks, game pads, wheels, pedals etc.
DD. Scanners
This category is intended for:
- Paper document scanners
- Film scanners
- Text readers that scan and recognize text (usually looks like big pen)
Notes:
- Bar code readers are described in the DE Bar Code Readers category.
- Fingerprints reader modules for non-computer (security) systems are out of our product scope.
- Document cameras for projectors are described in the EJ Output Accessories category.
DE. Bar Code Readers
This category is intended for:
- barcode scanners (except for signature reader combined with barcode scanner that comes to the DB Pointing Devices category)
- price checkers (verifiers)
Scanners that read other types of information are described within the DD Scanners category. Barcode scanners combined with magnetic card readers are described within DH Input Adapters category. Handheld computers (PalmOS, PocketPC or Linux based with graphical display) with integrated barcode scanners are described in AC Tablets & e-Book Readers category.
DF. Audio Input
This category is not in use anymore. Microphones are described within the KE Headsets & Microphones category
(Consumer Electronics (CE) catalog). MIDI keyboards are sent to NO-PCP (not a PC product).
DG. PC & Network Cameras
Within this category we describe:
- web cameras (USB, FireWire)
- document cameras
- videoconferencing cameras
- PC card, SD and CF slot camera modules
- PMP (portable multimedia player) camera modules
- CCTV cameras (with analog interface or networked)
- USB microscopes
- other direct optical still image and motion picture input devices that can not work without a computer (i.e. do not have flash memory or any other media for stand-alone operation) and use interface to computer to transmit digitized captured image or video to computer
Document cameras that serve as an accessory to some concrete projector are described in the EJ Output Accessories
category. Document cameras those are not accessory for some concrete projector are described in this category. Cameras for mobile phones are
described in MI Accessories. The consumer and professional digital cameras that feature flash memory recording capability are described within
the JD Camcorders & Digital Cameras category.
DH. Input Adapters
This category is intended for:
- TV tuners for computer (PCI, USB, etc) and computer monitors (i.e. devices that convert RF TV, composite, S-video to VGA)
- Plug-in TV tuner modules for flat panels (external tuners should be described in Combined AV Devices).
- Video capture(1) devices that captures
motion video from a VCR, camera or other video source. These devices may also provide:
- Analog signal output (composite video, S-video, etc.)
- Output for a monitor as an additional feature(2)
- A bundle of FireWire adapter (not a combo card!) and video capture software
- Input device(3) interface controllers if they are intended for use with that input device only
- CompactFlash, PC Card, Memory Stick (standard and DUO) adapters that are not covered by BF Memory
- Adapters:
- Not compatible with flash memory cards (i.e. compatible only with devices other than memory modules)
- If the purpose of the card reader is not specified by vendor (or its purpose is not obvious)
- Card readers and personal identification devices:
- Magnetic card readers and recorders (Magnetic Stripe Readers, MSR, Magstripe readers)
- Combined Barcode/Magstripe readers and recorders
- Combined SMART card / fingerprint readers

DJ. Input Accessories
This category is intended for product options related to the D Input Devices class that cannot be correctly described within other categories. Antennas
are described in the category FJ Network Accessories.

1. "to capture" means to convert external digital or analog video signal to internal digital signal that can be stored on a computer’s hard drive.
2. The adapter cannot or is not intended to be primary video card in a computer. As the rule, the vendor doesn’t provide information about type of graphics output chip and size of video memory for such card. Various all-in-one cards that combine graphics accelerator, video input and TV tuner functions are described in EF Video Cards.
3. Note that image scanner is also input device.
4. USB to PS/2 mouse adapter does not contain any electronics. Controller in mouse supports both USB and PS/2 electrical interfaces. This adapter provides only connections of pins. On the contrary USB adapter that provides additional PS/2 port is electronic device and described in the category DH Input Adapters.
E. Output Devices
EA. Monitors
This category is mainly intended for computer monitors. Several special kinds of displays are also covered:
- KVM consoles (including ones with KVM switch)
- Character displays for point-of-sale terminals
- Virtual reality headsets (with integrated display)
- Displays for medical purposes
- Open frame displays working on generic video interfaces (VGA, DVI, HDMI, etc.)
Notes:
The term "computer monitor" implies a video output device designed for regular office work. Dot pitch is typically smaller than 0.32 mm. Such
a display features DVI, VGA or HDMI input interface for a computer. A computer monitor may have multimedia features including TV tuner and remote
control. Distinguishing of these combined (TV+monitor) devices between this category and Televisions & Flat Panels is based on primary purpose
of the device. The purpose can be defined based on the following (listed from most to less important):
- Manufacturer's position in PC and CE segments of market
- The part of catalog (branch of site) where the product is displayed
- The structure of the part number or model name if the manufacturer uses different formats for TVs and monitors
- Direct statement about recommended applications of the product (window displays, in-store advertising, command & control applications, etc.)
- Size and resolution
Various additional integrated devices do not prevent a monitor from being described in this category (for example: USB
hub, switch, speaker(s), microphone, key-entry or/and pointing device, camera). Contemporary computer displays are based on LCD technology. Video
monitors based on Plasma (PDP) and projection technologies definitely belong to the category Televisions & Flat Panels. Video monitors
for home theaters, public areas, presentation, etc. are described in the category Televisions & Flat Panels. Digital signage solutions that
receive content from a network (wired or wireless) or external media (flash memory, USB or FireWire devices, etc.) are in the category Televisions
& Flat Panels as well.
EB. Presentation Monitors
This category is not in use anymore. Products that were covered by this category before now are distributes among
categories EA Monitors and JA Televisions & Flat Panels.
EC. Projectors
This category is intended for data, multimedia and home cinema projectors (digital projectors).
Overhead transparency projectors are described here as well.

ED. Printers
Within this category we describe:
- Document printers
- Large-format printers
- Digital photo printers (compact photo printers)
