DataSource 6.3 Release encompasses the following new features that are available now for CNET Content Solutions’ customers.
- DataSource API
- High-resolution Images
- Marketing Text & KSP: New Delivery Option
- Category-dependent Image Weights
- Unique Images Weights
- New Image Weight Range
DataSource API
We are pleased to officially announce DataSource API, a new option for real-time, on-demand content delivery.
DataSource API is a RESTful JSON API that supports delivery of product page content components including product description, marketing text, key selling points, main and extended specifications, what’s in the box, and product PDFs.
DataSource API does not fully replace Download.zip data feeds, but rather complements them. Data related to Product Page display can be dynamically served by DataSource API, while data related to search and navigation (e.g. categorization or parametric search attributes) is available via data feeds (Download.zip).
DataSource API is an alternative to DataSource Cloud integration mode. Just like DataSource Cloud, it simplifies content integration, providing higher level of flexibility around content display format.
Please refer to the DataSource API Quick Start Guide for more details.
High-resolution Images
We have enabled DataSource distribution system to support delivery of high-resolution multi-angle images. Initially we were distributing images up to 640×480. High-resolution images are available in sizes from 800×600 up to 2400×1800 pixels – depending on the original product images we aggregate from manufacturer websites and feeds.
To take advantage of this new feature, you will need high-resolution images to be activated for your DataSource account and request full digital content refresh for your catalog.
Marketing Text & KSP – New Delivery Option
We have created a new table (Cds_Digital_Content_Text) in the DigitalContent folder of CCS Download.zip feed. This table serves as an alternative delivery method for all text components existing in Digital Content, including:
- Marketing Description
- Key Selling Points (KSP)
- Product Features
- What’s In The Box
This can make integration a lot easier for the customers as they will not have to download multiple text files in every download.zip.
To take advantage of this new feature you will need the new cds_Digital_Content_Text table to be activated for your DataSource account and request full digital content refresh for your catalog.
Refer to DataSource 6.3 Release Notes for more details.
Category-dependent Image Weights
We have revised the algorithm defining Primary Image for products having multiple images, as well as the order of the images in the image gallery. The new algorithm would allow us to be more in line with the best industry practices, which tend to vary from category to category.
Going forward, we will be using front-view image as a primary in such categories as Mobile Phones, Tablets, Televisions and Monitors.
In some other categories (like Toys or Printer Consumables) the product package/box picture will become the new Primary Image in lieu of right-angle product view we have used in the past.
To take advantage of this new feature you will need to request full digital content refresh for your catalog.
Unique Images Weights
We have updated the algorithm for image weight calculation to avoid image weight duplicates for the same SKU. With DataSource 6.3 release, no SKU will have images with duplicated image weights.
To take advantage of this new feature you will need to request full digital content refresh for your catalog.
New Image Weight Range
Be advised we had to redefine the range for the image weights. Previously, image weights used up to 999. With the DataSource 6.3 release, the range is expanded up to 999999.
This modification was done in order to avoid image weight duplication and enable category-dependent rules for selection of primary product images.
All the features in this release are available to all qualifying DataSource customers at no additional charge.
